Caliber and tone
When purchasing tiles (ceramic, floor tiles, or porcelain stoneware), always double-check that all boxes share the exact same shade (Tone) and size (Caliber) code. Even a slight mismatch will be highly noticeable on the wall or floor.
Material stock/wastage
Always buy tiles with a 10 to 15% safety margin. This is essential to compensate for cuts (corners) and wastage, as well as in case any tiles break during transportation or cutting.
Waterproofing
Before laying tiles in the bathroom or on an open balcony, a complete waterproofing of the surface is mandatory. This protects the floor below from water leaks and prevents dampness and mold.
The right tile adhesive
Select the tile adhesive based on the type of tile. For example, large-format porcelain tiles require a highly elastic adhesive (Class S1 or S2), while open balconies demand a frost-resistant formula.

Ceramic tiles are relatively soft and porous, easy to cut, and used primarily for walls. Porcelain stoneware is fired under high pressure, making it an ultra-hard, frost-resistant, and waterproof material that is ideal for floors, balconies, and high-traffic areas.
Laying tiles absolutely seamlessly is not recommended. Even with rectified (laser-cut) tiles, a joint (seam) of at least 1.5 to 2 mm is required, because building settling or temperature fluctuations can cause the tiles to buckle and crack.
SVP is a system of special plastic clips and wedges used by craftsmen when laying tiles. It ensures that the tiles are perfectly leveled before the glue dries, which eliminates the appearance of gaps and makes the floor absolutely straight.
